There was plenty to see and discuss at the 53rd Doe Show which was held on Tuesday 5th to Thursday 7th February 2013 at the headquarters of Ernest Doe in Ulting, Maldon, Essex.

In the Case IH marquee was a Magnum 340 in silver livery to highlight 25 years production of this tractor. This is a major milestone for the Magnum which was the first tractor to be designed and built after the birth of Case IH which brought JI Case and International Harvester together.

Also on show was a Case IH 5130 combine harvester featuring the newly designed and developed cab which brings new levels of comfort and efficiency

Out in the field was a 36 metre fertiliser spreader from Kuhn – the AGT. Living up to its billing as ‘the UK’s largest agricultural, construction and groundcare dealer show’ this year’s event had the usual mixture of new machinery, working demonstrations and plenty of good bargains in the shop-soiled and used equipment sections.

On the demonstration field was a selection of Case IH tractors were working equipment from Kuhn, Dal-Bo and Spearhead. Farmers were able to glean some tips from John Hill, World Ploughing Champion who was putting his own equipment through its paces and explaining the subtlety of his set up. For the vintage enthusiasts, there was a 1931 Case Model C with Ransomes 2 furrow trailer plough, a 1941 Fordson Model N and Fordson Elite 2 furrow plough, a 1961 Doe Triple D with Ransomes TS59 5 furrow plough, Doe 130 and Doe 150.

Graham Parker, sales director of Ernest Doe said, “The day dawned brightly on Tuesday and the morning saw a constant stream of visitors entering the show from the car park. Sales of our used equipment got off to an especially brisk start. The show as a whole builds year by year. Our indications are that the sales results will pass those of last year and we are very pleased that so many of our customers take the time out of their normal work schedules to visit the show.”

On the construction side there was a big presence from both Hyundai and New Holland Construction as well as two franchises new to the company – Thwaites and Bomag. Ernest Doe has recently been appointed distributor for Thwaites dumpers, bringing back a successful trading association that the two companies had in the 1950s and 60s. Ernest Doe took on the Bomag franchise in December 2012 and this was the first time Bomag machines have been at the show.

In the demonstration arena, a Hyundai 145LCR-9 excavator was working alongside a 6 tonne and a 3 tonne Thwaites dumper. For visitors who wished to show off their excavator handling skills, there was a special test course where they could get to grips with a New Holland Kobelco E26B The groundcare section featured New Holland T5 and T4 PowerStar tractors, Jacobsen’s new TrueSet cutting units and the new Ransomes Meteor which is a turbo charged Parkway 3 with flail heads.

Managing director Colin Doe said, “We like to put on a good show and this is reflected in the fact that we saw more visitors to the show this year. Putting on the show is a real team effort and I would like to thank everyone at the company for their help in staging the event. We are sure that these efforts bring big benefits to our visitors who have the opportunity to discuss products with our suppliers’ technical staff and our sales staff in order to make good, informed purchasing decisions.”
