Machine of the Year’, new CVT tractors, plenty of visitors, wind, rain and a little sunshine… the Doe Show 2014, held at the Ulting, Maldon, Essex premises of Ernest Doe, had all the usual ingredients. Amongst the 150 or more trade stands were a surprisingly high number of new products for 2014 as well as stands from one or two manufacturers new to Ernest Doe and thereby making their first appearance at the show.
Graham Parker, sales director for Ernest Doe & Sons Ltd commented, “We shall always be grateful to our faithful customers who turn out in great numbers to visit our show at a time when the weather is never at its best. However it is a good time for them to buy and the show always provides us with a great start to the year, with 2014 being no exception. We are pleased to be able to report strong sales of both new and used equipment which makes all the investment by ourselves and our suppliers worthwhile.”
New Case IH Maxxum with CVT
November 2013 saw the first Maxxum CVX EP tractors leave the St Valentin manufacturing plant and extend the advantage of the renowned Case IH Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) technology into the four-cylinder, medium-power class. Versatile and cost-effective, the 110hp Maxxum 110 CVX EP, 121hp Maxxum 120 CVX EP and 131hp Maxxum 130 CVX EP follow an increasing trend in the agricultural industry towards the use of CVT transmissions.
Platinum Puma and Magnum with CVT
The 2014 Show had the most spectacular range of Case IH equipment ever to be seen at the Doe Show including the Platinum Puma, soon to be available for sale in black, with chrome exhaust and red leather interior.
The Magnum CVX is another range of tractors from Case IH equipped with CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission). This new range runs from 260 to 370 rated horsepower and complements the existing power-shift tractors. To ensure maximum efficiency this transmission provides the desired working speed through a combination of hydrostatic and mechanical drive. Four mechanical gear ranges minimise the level of hydrostatic drive to no more than 50% and in some cases there is 100% mechanical drive which is an important factor to aid reducing fuel consumption.
New versatile Kuhn Performer cultivator
Kuhn’s versatile Performer offers a powerful single-pass solution across a range of conditions whilst also providing disc-only or tine-only functionality to suit individual requirements. Available in 4 and 5 metre working widths for tractor power up to 500hp in its wider format, the Performer comprises twin disc gangs (10cm working depth), four rows of tines (35cm working depth), levelling discs and the new 700mm diameter HD-Liner roller.
New from Dal-Bo
New from Dal-Bo in 2014 are the 18.3m, five section hydraulic folding rolls as the company continues to meet the requirements of the UK farmers. The latest edition still benefits from the compact, simple, yet brilliant folding system as used on the other 5 section rolls offered by Dal-Bo.
New dynamic section control KRM fertiliser spreaders
Efficiency was the focus on the KRM stand. High fertiliser costs mean that all farmers must ensure accurate spreading over the total field area including irregular shaped fields and headlands. To achieve this, KRM spreaders offer two section control methods. The field proven Standard Section Control adjusts the spread symmetrically in short work and is recommended for narrower tramline widths. For wider working widths up to 42m, new Dynamic Section Control is introduced which alters the spread pattern asymmetrically by simultaneously adjusting the feed point and rate to the left or right for optimum accuracy in angled headlands.
Spearhead’s new mounted mower
Spearhead presented the new Multicut 430 which fills a distinct gap in the market according to Spearhead UK Sales Manager; James Brown. The Multicut 430 is packaged with all of the heavy duty features associated with the Spearhead Multicut range including signature winged up-draft blades, high horsepower gearboxes, heavy gauge fully seam welded steel deck, deck protection rings and a compact transport position.
Lemken FlexPack makes pressing easy
Most farmers agree that pressing ploughed land conserves moisture and breaks clods. The Lemken FlexPack is mounted on the plough, turns over with the plough, and is transported from field to field on the plough. It has the added benefit of varying its width with the furrow width of the plough. Since its launch, at the start of 2013, Ernest Doe have sold a number of units to satisfied customers.
New Kongskilde Germinator Pro precision seedbed cultivator
Kongskilde were showing the Germinator Pro precision seedbed cultivator which is new for 2014. Based on the same principles as the existing Germinator range, Germinator Pro creates extremely fine seedbeds at a precise cultivation depth for sugar beet, maize, peas etc and is available in a number of working widths to suit tractor horse power availability. Demo models are available for the 2014 Spring season.
New Bomford augers
On show was a new range of augers which have been designed for Bomford arm mowers and are available in number combinations, catering from soft grounds all the way to mixed rocky grounds and even permafrost. The Bomford Stump Planer is the quick and easy attachment to the drill head for the effective, clean removal of tree stumps of any size.
Shelbourne launches two new products
An innovative new hedgecutter combining variable forward reach with telescopic arm capability formed the centrepiece of the Shelbourne Reynolds stand at the 2014 Doe Show. VFRT (Variable Forward Reach Telescopic) builds upon the success of the Shelbourne VFR range, introduced in 2007 in response to feedback from operators and owners updating mid-mount machines and wanting the reach of telescopic arms without a return to the inconvenience of looking over their shoulders. It uses a pivot between the first and second arms to allow the head to be placed precisely where required, both in terms of comfort and the best position to cut the hedge.
The 2014 Doe Show was also the launchpad for the new Shelbourne 250 economy verge trimmer. This is a 5m machine incorporating a fixed non-slew frame with mechanical breakback. It is a non parallel arm machine with 5m reach and slide mount 1.2m belt drive head. Cable controls and twin pump hydraulics are standard with the option of an oil cooler. The machine is priced to compete at the budget end of the market yet maintains the strength and reliability found in Shelbourne’s larger higher specced machines.
Fleming – new for 2014
New for 2014 was Fleming Agri-Products who displayed their range of flat rolls and loader attachments. “We sell a huge number of flat rolls each year”, said Graham Parker, sales director for Ernest Doe. “Price and quality of the product are both equally important and Fleming certainly have both these factors sorted. Flat rolls tend to last a very long time but most growers tend to have one which makes the market potential huge. They sell particularly well in our Ernest Doe Power branches in Kent and Sussex where the grassland concentration is quite high.”
