The 55th Doe Show, held 3-5 February at Ulting, near Maldon, Essex continued to draw in the crowds hungry to see new agricultural machinery for the first time. Top of the list were the innovative Case IH Magnum 380 CVX Rowtrac and the powerful new CR10.90 combine from New Holland .
A new concept in conventional tractors, the Rowtrac is a version of the successful Case IH Magnum tractor. This machine has been produced by attaching a Quadtrac system to a much modified Magnum rear axle. The resulting machine has been very impressive in managing to transfer its power to the ground in a similar way to twin track machines already on the market but with none of the soil damage on headlands. It maintains its grip in wet conditions too. Also in the Case IH marquee was the EIMA Tractor of the Year, the Magnum 380CVX which is an embodiment of the Magnum philosophy of increasing performance and productivity, reducing fuel consumption and emissions, improving operator comfort and thus optimising owners’ return on investment.
Newly introduced, the New Holland CR10.90 pushed up the Guinness World Record for the amount of wheat harvested in an eight hour period to almost 800 tonnes, smashing the previous record by over 120 tonnes. The CR10.90 tops the new range of CR combines from New Holland which raise harvesting to a whole new level: up to 15% more productivity in small grains, grain crackage as low as 0.2%, and the ultimate comfort cab. The CR10.90, the first combine to enter the class 10 segment in Europe and the most powerful CR ever, delivers the highest capacity in the industry and truly outstanding performance.
Graham Parker, Sales Director of Ernest Doe & Sons Ltd said, “We are pleased that our show grows year by year and that farmers continue to attend in their thousands, picking up bargains from our extensive stock of used and ex-demo machinery, showing interest in new products and developments in the market and actively discussing their forward machinery purchases with us and the manufacturers’ technical staff who are in attendance at the show.”
As always, great interest was shown in the demonstrations of new Case IH and New Holland tractors which were out in the adjacent fields working with a variety of implements. A Doe Triple D, Doe 130, Case Model C and Fordson Model N were also showing visitors the way cultivation was done when they were state-of-the-art machines.
In the construction area there was a Hyundai excavator, a Thwaites dumper and also Bomag light compaction equipment. As well as the usual chainsaw and quad bike demonstrations, there was also a demonstration in wood chippers given by Eliet.
There were plenty of new machines on show including the Maschio Bufalo, the QM range of trailers from Marshall, two new products from Spearhead, Ritchie super multi bale handler and a galvanised Spread a Bale.
The Maschio Bufalo flail mower is the new heavy duty big brother to the Bisonte model with upgraded transmission and driveline to cope with higher horsepower tractors (up to 200hp). The Maschio Bufalo is suitable for cutting grass, crop residues, maize stalks and shredding branches or twigs. It can be used as a front or rear mounted machine.
New for 2015 is an updated Marshall QM monocoque trailer range. The range features a unique design chassis which combines unmatched strength and stability. Marshall encourage you to do a cost comparison, making sure that you work out the cost per cubic foot for each of your potential purchases so that you will see what value the QM represents.
The all new Quadsaw range from Spearhead will be available in the spring. These four new models will be available in 1.4m to 2.4m cutting widths and come with a 60% power increase over current models which is also combined with a more lightweight and compact design.
With a new livery and tank design the Spearhead Twiga 545 reach mower is packed full of features for farmers and contractors alike. These include; 5.40m reach, cable or proportional controls, a road lighting kit, hydraulic slew and safety break away, and a wide choice of cutting attachments.
The new Ritchie Super Multi Bale Handler moves three round bales or four midi square bales in one manoeuvre. It features 14 high tensile steel tines in two folding wings, with each wing operated by its own hydraulic ram to tightly secure the bales. When mated to a heavy duty, high capacity front-end loader or telehandler for stability, bales are quickly and safely moved and stacked from field to farm.
For 2015, Spread-a-Bale machines will feature a galvanised finish. The new finish will be harder wearing than conventional paint and give the machine better protection against the corrosion risks to which the machine is exposed during use. But it doesn’t stop there, the 2015 machines will also have a combination of lighter rotors and improved hydraulics with an up-rated motor that the manufacturers say will improve the machine’s working life and extend the distance it can spread straw.
New medium platform mower from Ransomes
Also at the show were the new Ransomes MP493 and MP653 mowers which are the first two machines in a series of new mowers to be manufactured by Ransomes Jacobsen at their Ipswich plant. The new range will provide multiple options from a single design platform and is expected to appeal to the municipal sector of the market.
The two machines are powered by 49hp and 65hp diesel engines and feature three all new rotary decks – one out front and two wing decks.
